I included this artifact in my e-portfolio because I feel that it helped to document my transformation of how I view adult education. In this artifact I researched and advocated for the importance the role of online education can play in adult education. This artifact helped increase my learning through research ine realizing just how much the internet is accessed, and by more than just a couple of generations. This artifact relates to my theme in that I was able to further grow and transform how I view the delivery of education and how a learning environment is evolving.
This artifact relates to humanistic theory of education. Online education is a form of education that grows and evolves and you are going to need a learner that is willing to grow and evolve with it. They need to be up to the challenge of learning new skills. Because online education can be a little more difficult, you are going to need a learner that is highly motivated and self-directed.
If I were to make changes to this artifact, I would include points about how ease of use for the student can affect learning, as well as the challenges an instructor encounters by trying to bring their presence to the course. Because of the ever-changing nature of technology, I can see future growth in online education and a need to keep up with those changes as an educator.
I’ve been able to take what I have learned and apply it in my current role by implementing online training guides both on a departmental Canvas page as well as in emails that I send. I take into consideration who my audience is and adjust my information accordingly, as well as the steps or images given. If it is something that I am posting to the Canvas site, I tend to try to find a balance between images and steps to not frustrate avid users or confuse individuals who may not be as familiar with Canvas.
